Election Day 2026

Two of the most important people to me in my life both passed away right after Trump was elected and never got to see him gone. My grandmother in early 2017, my daughter in mid-2025.

Both were on the correct side of history. At least my daughter got a semi-reprieve from 2020 - 2024. But they still left us with the state of the world and country where it was, and it is one of the many, many, reasons I'll probably never forgive people for the voting choices they made.

Selfish of me, I know.

The last conversation I had with Adrianna in person was two days before she died, and it was about politics and Trumpism. She was feeling defeated, as was I, as were many of us, but we reminded ourselves that we had to not give up and just keep moving forward, hoping that one day The Good Guys (metaphorically speaking) would prevail, and our collective better natures would manifest themselves.

Last night was a small step in that regard. I have no illusions that it could all go away in two years, or four years, but for now, I can breathe just a bit easier and feel a bit less fatalistic and pessimistic about what are country is and who are people are.

Of course, I just wish my gram and daughter could be here to feel this as well.
