How To Improve Soccer

Since I'm calling it soccer and not football, obviously the improvement I'm going to suggest applies only to the American version of the game, in an attempt to make it more palatable to the American sports fans who constantly complain that soccer is too low scoring for their tastes.

So you watch an NFL football game on TV, and the score ends 21 - 7, and a great time (and a few beers) were had by one and all. And yet, if you think about it, the score was just 3 - 1; the NFL just happens to award 6 points when one moves the ball across the opposing team's goal line. The extra points don't count; everyone considers them a waste of time, anyway.

Therefore, all we have to do is to get the MLS to change its scoring system. Instead of a goal scoring one point, they could say that a goal scores 53 points. All those people whining about low scores would then flock to the sport after a few 106 -53 results. Everyone is happy (and by "everyone", I mean the lazy American sports fan with low attention span who likes big numbers).

Once again, you're welcome.

it'll never work anyway - they play straight thru the half. No commercial breaks - the hallmark of American sports

You know how they can have blue screens behind home plate, and superimpose ads there that show up on TV? Well, if they painted the entire soccer field/pitch blue, it could be one giant blue screen, with commercials playing non-stop during the game! That's the ticket!
