Dixie Cups
Whatever happened to Dixie Cups? You know, those little 2-inch or so disposable paper cups? When I was growing up in the late 60s/70s they were ubiquitous. Everyone had them.
Most were plain white, but there were some with riddles on them ("How do you know an elephant has been in the fridge? Answer: There are footprints in the butter". Etc). Some were black and orange for Halloween, green and red for Christmas.
They were everywhere. I think they were designed for the bathroom, for rinsing out your mouth or taking pills, but people had them in the garage to hold loose bolts, in the sewing room holding buttons... kids used them for crafts. Etc. Everywhere, as far as the eye could see... Dixie Cups. They had dispensers, too, that you bought, from the simple plastic to the chrome plated affairs that I'd see at some of my more wealthy friends.
Yes, the Dixie Cup crossed socioeconomic lines like no disposable cup had previously.
Now they're all gone (much like something else from my youth that I've already asked about, the horizontal hold). You never see a Dixie Cup. What happened to them? Did people stop rinsing, sorting, and crafting? Where does one go for stupid riddles now? (Aside: we also got our riddles as kids printed on popsicle sticks). Does anyone even remember the Dixie Cup? If I wanted to buy a Dixie cup today, could I?
Who mourns for the Dixie Cup?

I meant to reply to this earlier, but then forgot. I figured someone would step up the the plate to defend the existence of Dixie Cups.
Not sure why they went out of fashion, but I still see 'em in the stores. I just never liked the idea of affixing a cheap piece of plastic to the wall that will eventually break off and leave yuckiness.
Though they have standalone dispensers that would go on a counter, right? So maybe I don't know what I'm talking about. Wouldn't be the first time.

Hank--
You can still get Dixie cups here. I have had Winnie the Pooh cups, Disney cups and lately seashell themed cups.
For the record, I use the cups out of a standing dispenser (their box) rather than stick something to my bathroom wall.
Dallas is sadly lacking if you cannot find Dixie cups.

I've been seeing ads for Dixie cups on tv recently, and everytime I do I think, Wow is Hank ever out of touch.
